New York in miniatureOFF-TOPIC , November 20, 2010
Sam O’Hare did a great work with his short film Sandpit which won in Austria the Prix Ars Electronica Award of Distinction 2010 and was selected to show at AFI Fest 2010.
The film, made of a series of stills – over 35.000, was shot during a week in different locations in New York. What we love about the movie is the tilt-shift effect which gives a miniature feel to the scenes.
The artist chose to use normal lenses for the shots, and applied the tilt-shift effect in post-production. This gave him more options in controlling the depth of field and the shot movement.
The soundtrack was produced for the movie by Human and it captures the feel of the film beautifully.
